I turned my back for a minute...

I don't know if this picture really does it justice.

My thoughts were in this order:

1. A broom won't sweep up cottage cheese (because yes, that is cottage cheese all over the floor, Naomi's hair, herself, her bib and the tray)

2. I have to take a picture (she's hilarious!)

3. When do I start disciplining? / Tone of voice is not discipline - actions are.

I was working on a grocery list while she was supposed to be eating the only thing left in the house for breakfast (cottage cheese and blueberries). My mistake may have been letting her have a spoon.

Mississippi Road Trip, part 2

Part of going to Mississippi is visiting relatives, and it was fun to show off Naomi to them all. This is my mom's aunt and uncle, Aunt June and Uncle Ray -- the ribbon on Aunt June's shoulder was given to her by Naomi. Isn't it lovely?

Here is Naomi and I with my Great-Aunt Billie (my dad's, dad's sister). She has a doorframe in her house where everyone in my family has been measured, but Naomi was a sleepy girl (as she looks here). But she enjoyed exploring Billie's house, particularly her piano!

Finally, we spent Monday night outside of New Orleans with my aunt and uncle (mom's sister). I was so happy to get to see everyone there, and it was nice to split the trip up into two days. Here's Naomi checking out pictures of my aunt Diane's travels. She also loved my cousins, and took to Joe pretty quickly. Alex entertained her while waiting for dinner!

Mississippi Road Trip

So, last weekend Mom drove down from Colorado, loaded up Naomi and I, and the three of us took a trip to Mississippi. I know, its an 11-hour trip (16 hours with a one-year-old) but Naomi was great, with a few normal moments of protest about being in the carseat that long. This was my first trip back with mom since my grandmother died in 2005.

Naomi enjoyed going through some of grandmom's things - and so did I. Here I am wearing the dress (and dyed-to-match shoes) my grandmother wore to my parents' wedding (posing as she would have in the picture). Naomi tried on the shoes too! It was good time for Mom to take Naomi and show her Mississippi.

Vacation Pictures

Here are the three of us at the beach. See - in the background you can see ocean! I'll have to get actual beach pictures from my in-laws -- we didn't take the camara with us!

We do not cry at THE BEACH

Okay, "we made our baby cry" has got to go - it has been the top of the blog too long, and that is depressing. What is not depressing? THE BEACH, where we spent our weekend. I'll have pictures up hopefully soon. But just imagine remarkably calm and clear water for Port Aransas, and Naomi in a sunhat she strangely kept on! She loved the water, and really liked building sandcastles - or rather, being Naomi-zilla and destroying them, and walking on the beach covered in sand. And of course, much fun was had playing with cousins Anna and Abby.

She did not cry at the beach. I'll find some pictures soon.

We made our baby cry

Last night, Mark and I both tried on our "we're parents, and serious about what we're saying, even though you are hilarious so we are trying not to laugh" faces. Unfortunately, we did it at the same time.

Next time I may go ahead and laugh along.

13 Months

Today Naomi is 13 months old. This morning, she picked up her shoe and went to Mark, saying "Da Da" and held up her shoe to put it on! While Naomi says mama and dada, it has not been directed at one of us - mama usually happens in distress, for example. But today, Naomi talked to her "Da Da".
